“We Look Up”
I started a passion project after my trip to Tanzania to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro. The experience of the climb reminded me that the ordinary could be extraordinary. It’s all a matter of perspective.
Ordinary Can Be Extraordinary, or OCBE promotes the idea that we all need to make a conscious effort to look up. Stop continuously staring at devices and see the world around us. Appreciate what we already have, as we tend to take it for granted.
Information overload, infinite choices, endless ways to compare our lives to others is the driving force for unhappiness today. It has created a billion dollar industry in mindfulness and increased the need for therapy by the millions. It’s time for a change.
For one year, I recorded my look-up “moment” every day. It was a lot harder than I had anticipated. While I don’t record my moments daily any longer, it has become natural to me to take a moment when I need it to look up, breathe, and show appreciation for my life.
I encourage everyone to try this practice of looking up and showing appreciation. The positive effects it has had on my life are innumerable.
